What Is CBD?
CBD, an acronym for Cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring compound found in the flower of the cannabis plant. Cannabis itself has been used by humans for thousands of years for everything from food and fuel to medicine. It is the therapeutic application of the CBD compound in particular that is now generating such interest from health and wellness professionals all around the world.
Unlike another compound found in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which produces a mind-altering "high", CBD is not psychoactive. This means that when used in medicine or for therapeutic purposes, CBD does not alter the user’s state of mind. Published medical studies indicate that CBD is non-addictive and that there are a wide range of potential applications of CBD to help treat both physical and mental health related conditions.
How Does CBD Impact The Body And Mind?
Our bodies already contain compounds similar to CBD. The endocannabinoid system regulates these compounds and in effect, impacts many of our internal physiological processes, including energy levels, our metabolism, stress hormone functions, and our immune system. When the endocannabinoid system isn’t functioning properly, our physical and mental wellbeing is directly affected.
Scientific research has shown that CBD can help modulate the endocannabinoid system. The human body has two receptors for cannabinoids:
· CB1 receptors are primarily in the brain and are directly related to mental functions like mood, thinking, and memories
· CB2 receptors are found in the immune system and can directly impact pain and inflammation
Research indicates that the use of CBD promotes the use of the body’s naturally occurring cannabinoid compounds by increasing their attachment to both types of CB receptors. This effect has proven to lessen the negative impacts of a dysfunctional endocannabinoid system, and in some cases, stop them entirely.

What Is CBD Isolate?
When extracting CBD from a Cannabis plant, a broad range of other compounds are also extracted. The strain of Cannabis plant used will determine the profile of compounds that are extracted along with CBD. Then, the extract is refined to include only the compounds required for the specific product being produced. Based on the final composition of compounds, the CBD will be labelled as CBD Isolate or Full Spectrum CBD.
CBD isolate is the purest form of CBD because all of the other compounds are removed, ensuring that the final product contains only pure CBD and no other active cannabinoids. CBD Isolate is THC-FREE and has no psychoactive effects.
What Is Full Spectrum CBD?
Full spectrum CBD contains all of the compounds extracted from the Cannabis plant - including terpenes, essential oils, and a vast array of other cannabinoids. In other words, it contains the entire spectrum of cannabinoids and has the ability to offer enhanced therapeutic effects. The combined thereputic effects of all of the active cannabinoids in Full Spectrum CBD is called, "The entourage Effect".
Full Spectrum CBD does contain trace amounts of THC (below 0.3%), so it will not produce any psychoactive effects.
